“is this for real? like real-real?”

the naked heiress was never meant for reality tv.  it’s back to the inter-webs :

she hopes it’ll go viral.  abby needs the image of her confession to circulate. the DA doesn’t believe her and her parents want to keep her quiet.  before the hack-director abby hired as the naked heiress director can upload the image, victor steals the tape, kidnaps abby and ships her off to rehab (not the same facility as nikki, this one is in conneticut).

but there are other ways abby’s confession may find suitable hosts.  catherine’s suspicious.  deaon was bar-tending at gloworm (where and) when abby’s image was captured.  and what happens when tucker remembers?

CAN VICTOR KEEP ADAM FROM A SEAT ON THE BOARD OF NEWMAN ENTERPRISES?

to catch up . . .

adam newman—after having conspired with diane jenkins to fake the death of his father and her (twice) ex-husband, victor newman, on the day victor took his company public—now owns a significant portion of newman enterprises.  with word of victor’s death the price of stock fell, allowing adam (and jack abbot, thanks to a tip from diane) to acquire enough stock to demand a seat on victor’s board of directors.  i may even appoint myself co-chair, adam says to victor (after showing victor a number representing stocks adam now owns of newman enterprises written on a small yellow paper).  just imagine that, father and son running newman enterprises together . . .

victor, already upset hearing that the SEC may not even investigate adam for stock price manipulation, decides to show adam what he thinks about adam having a seat on his board:

throwing a chair out the window of the ceos office may seem strange until we remember a scene y&r flashed back to a couple months ago:

for the context:

the future scenes of newman enterprises’ board meetings are gonna be good.  so far there’s victor, catherine chancellor, lauren fenmore, adam (unless victor can somehow get him thrown into prison).  and, who knows, maybe nick and victoria newman (especially now that phyllis was awarded custody of lucy), jack, tucker (provided he wakes from his coma) . . .

victor feels the same way about meggie as katherine and murphy.

"i'm gonna make sure that you become consigned to a dark and lonely hole for the rest of your miserable existence."

but meggie’s got other plans than to stay in jail.  she’s trying to blackmail deacon sharp into helping her break out.  if he doesn’t, she’ll tell nikki everything (about how deacon helped spike her drinks before he fell in love with her).  she’s got this jailbreak idea on her mind quite a bit.

"isn't there anything better on -- like the great escape?"

i hope they have it on demand for the inmates.

victor grants interviews to the press regarding his children’s lawsuit.

"my empire has not shattered; newman enterprises is not for sale; and my company is as strong as ever."

billy abbott heard about the press interviews and insisted on getting one as well.  victor says, “i love my children.  i don’t want this to be happening.”  but billy isn’t “buying what [victor is] selling.”

"i know the man with the heart-warming platitudes really just has an ice cold heart. and your act -- it's not that good."

meanwhile meggie is back in genoa city.  as katherine explains, some of the evidence in alaska got dismissed on a technicality so she was extradited back to wisconsin.  murphy and kay decide to confront meggie.

"trying to read here!"

meggie continues, “look who’s standing upright.  oops!  still can’t talk?  it’s alright, you can just tap out a message on the bars.”  murphy is cool and collected: “i’m just enjoying the view.”  but meggie’s been spending her free time (in prison) working on her wit.

"i'm 10 times easier on the eyes than that old bag you're married to."

murphy isn’t even phased: “it’s been a long time coming — you rotting behind bars.”  meggie just keeps them coming: “it’s only temporary.  i’ll be outta here before you can swallow another nitro pill.”  but kay is lurking in the shadows.

"this old bag is gonna make sure you spend the rest of your life in jail."

yesterday, heather tells chloe, in the hallway at the hospital, that chance is alive.  and only seconds before he’s rolled into surgery . . .

everyone is stuck at the hospital awaiting the outcome of the chance-ronan-kidney-exchange (or was it a liver?).   since time on the y&r is always confusing (according to jill, it was only yesterday that she was married to collin while cane was murdered), it’s unclear if the surgery is lasting days or if it’s only been 20 minutes.  regardless, heather and her dad go off in search of food and drink . . .

chloe chose the can of diet soda

nina's favorite kind of chocolate bar!

later, katherine and jill say a duel pray . . .

katherine never once closed her eyes

after chance’s part of the surgery turns out well, katherine gives i sly look up (to god, i guess) and whispers “keep up the good work”.  so what does god do?  cut to dr nick hastings, the surgeon informing the family of ronan’s post-surgical condition: “ronan didn’t make it”.

in another storyline, adam spends the entire episode talking to himself (or maybe talking to the ghost of skye) as he scourers the internet looking for skye’s hidden accounts and po boxes . . . (i think his plan is to pretend to be an online skye — booking hotel rooms at her favorite resorts, buying bottles of her favorite discontinued perfume, getting po boxes under an old alias of skye’s  — to try to get sharon’s murder charges dropped.)

this was an actual conversation between katherine and chloe:

katherine (motioning towards chloe’s phone): i havent seen you twittering or whatever you call it.

chloe: i can’t post anything about chance.

from yesterday: victor accidentally crashes his snowmobile into a tree.  only a minor head injury — some blood ripping down his forehead — but no signs of a concussion yet.  sophia also survives her motorcycle attack unconcussed.

luckily, the motorcycle could only hurt her wrist

they ask her for details: who was the driver?  what did he look like?  it was like a flash . . . sophia can only remember a the helmet . . . there was something on it . . . a decal of a skull . . .

the same helmet blake is carrying around

from today: jill and collin get married.  it went something like this:

last wednesday (or was it thursday?), phyllis wrote two blog post in a single episode.  and one of the posts featured an embedded video billy bought on the black market.  the video was later pulled by order of the court.

the daytime emmy’s need a new award: best baby in a soap opera.

the baby-actor who plays faith should be the first recipient

its like she doesn’t even realize she’s being filmed.  and, like every other character on y&r, faith is obsessed with cell phones.

does sharon have the mona lisa set as her background?

last week, sophia was fired for helping cane pay off his blackmailer by funneling the money tucker meant to pay for research on alternative energy tax laws in australia into the hands of australian gangsters.  today, malcom, concerned for his daughter/niece’s safety now that he’s also found out that cane is involved with australian gangsters, is breaking off the wedding because sophia knew the entire time.  off-screen we hear the engine of a motorcycle . . . shaken from her fight with malcom, sophia darts off across the street . . . headlights . . . she freezes, screams . . .

cane can’t tell anyone that phillip is both his father and the head of a major crime syndicate; one word, and phillip will murder jill.  meanwhile, phillip and jill are getting ready to elope.  katherine, of course, objects.

from wikipedia:

Michael Fairman referred to Cane and Lily as “one of daytimes’s most popular couples” and considered their story with Billy and Chloe as “one of soaps all-time best quadrangle story arcs.”[19]Soap Opera Digest’s Mallory Harlen praised the quadrangle for adding another layer to Lily. “The always prim, always perfect Lily reminded me way too much of Christine Blair…in a bad way,” Harlen said. “But being a woman scorned really worked for her; her new found feistiness is completely fitting for Drucilla’s daughter.”[71]TV Guide Canada‘s Nelson Branco criticized the pairing for having, in his opinion, no chemistry and said he wanted Cane “in the big leagues and not with little girls.” He also mentioned how the pairing developed “a very vocal, and loyal fanbase.”[72]Soap Opera Update named Cane and Lily the best couple on The Young and the Restless for 2008.[11] Viewers voted the pairing into various top couple polls in soap opera magazines.

tuesday — jan 25 2011

phyllis arrives late for lunch with jack bringing an apology: she was running an errand.  an errand?  jack can’t believe it.  “and what exactly was this ‘errand’ ?”  phyllis: “i dropped by to see sharon [she’s in jail for the murder of skye lockheart-newman . . . murder one, according to cricket], i was looking for a quote.” the sharon-quote she’s after is, presumably, for an upcoming feature in the genoa city fashion/gossip magazine (a faship mag?  you know, cause fashion is hip and gossip is always fashionable), restless style.  well, did she get a usable quote?  yes, but not the one she was looking for . . . “sharon said if she ever snapped, she would have killed me” rather than skye.  but that’s not a direct quote.  this is what sharon actually said to phyllis in the segment before this current phyllis/jack lunch after phyllis explained how she knows how “sometimes people do things they never knew they were capable of doing” in the heat of those temper-flaring moments: “if i was going to kill someone, in the heat of the moment, it would have been you.”

we’ll see which quote she publishes in restless style.

earlier jack also ran an “errand”: adam dropped by to solicit bail for sharon.  phyllis: “and what did you tell him?”  jack: “i told him to go howl at the moon.”  wait, that’s not what he told him.

“i’m going to tell you what i told sharon: as long as the two our you are together, i don’t give a rat’s behind about sharon or her crises.”

and later, victor pays sharon a visit in jail.  sharon calls victor on breaking his promise to help her.  but victor’s promise was conditional:

“the exact words: the day you acknowledge that you made a mistake getting involved with adam is the day i would do everything that i can to help you.”

that promise was made like two weeks ago, so i am unable to check the accuracy of that quote.  while i can understand all the mis-quoting since memory doesnt work by recalling a previous statement word-for-word (unless the memory is a flashback), what i can’t understand is why victor is now anonymously bailing out sharon.

thur/fri — jan 12 and 13 2011

mediation day.  it’s victor and micheal one one side of the table; victoria, abby and vance on the other.  the mediator is a retired judge (i think).  the ruling:  1/3 of newman enterprises will be frozen until the end of the lawsuit.  what do you do when 1/3 of your assets of the company you built from scratch are now frozen over a lawsuit brought by your daughters?  hold a press conference, of course.

while the tele-visual images captured by the on-screen camera are never shown, the devices used to watch victor’s press-conference are:

but what, exactly, does newman enterprises do?  how does victor make all his money (other than crashing hedgefunds to frame adam for murder and keeping abby’s trust fund away from her since she wants to start a reality tv show)?  newman enterprises is some kind of conglomerate with interests in cosmetics, real estate development, medical research, energy and so on.  they also buy and sell a lot of other business.  and these frozen assets are going to be bad for this buying and selling.  so how will the business survive?  by cutting 10% of their workforce.  victor pretends to b sad about all the firings, but we know better:  capital’s dream has always been to liberate itself from labor.

jack drops by to gloat in victor’s recent troubles, but find, again, that victor is one step ahead:

jack's robot-son: "we're living at victors's now. isn't it great?"

diane and victor have already started cordinating outfits

elsewhere,

victoria to nick: “i have all the money in the world, but the one thing i want [a baby with billy], money can’t buy.”  i think billy and victoria may have a communication problem.  billy’s out buying victoria a baby right now.

and, heather gets ronan to admit that chance is alive.

and, daniel is awake but can’t remember details from his confrontation with daisy (even, or especially, with phyllis, michael and jack  at the hospital pressuring him to remember).

and, adam has been released from jail thanks to the time-stamp on this photo:
